Ribosome biogenesis protein BRX1 homolog (BRIX1)

Target
BRIX1
Molecular classification
Other (ribosome assembly factor), ribosome biogenesis factor
01

Overview

Ribosome biogenesis protein BRX1 homolog is a ribosome assembly factor required for the synthesis of the large 60S ribosomal subunit. It is encoded by the BRIX1 gene and operates primarily in the nucleolus, supporting the final assembly steps needed to generate elongation-competent 80S ribosomes for protein synthesis[3][5]. BRIX1 is upregulated in several cancers, particularly colorectal cancer, and correlates with higher tumor stage and poorer patient survival[1]. Its expression may be a prognostic biomarker and a candidate for therapeutic intervention that targets the enhanced ribosome biogenesis in cancer cells[1].
