Ribosome biogenesis protein NSA2 homolog pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

This gene refers to a pseudogene homologous to the protein-coding NSA2, which is involved in ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation in its functional form. Pseudogenes are typically noncoding genomic sequences similar to known genes but lack protein-coding potential. Recent research suggests some pseudogenes can influence cellular biology by generating noncoding RNAs that regulate coding gene expression, either by producing antisense transcripts, competing for regulatory factors, or being processed into small interfering RNAs. There is no evidence that this NSA2 pseudogene has a direct protein-encoded function, nor is it a therapeutic target, but pseudogenes as a class are being studied for their potential roles in gene regulation and disease.
