RPF2

Overview

Ribosome production factor 2 homolog (RPF2) is a nucleolar protein essential for the assembly and maturation of the large ribosomal subunit, particularly through its involvement in the incorporation of the 5S ribonucleoprotein particle into ribosome precursors[5][2]. It binds 5S rRNA and plays a regulatory role in ribosome biogenesis, impacting cellular processes such as localization to the nucleolus and regulation of signal transduction by p53 class mediator[2][4][5]. In cancer, especially colorectal cancer, RPF2 expression has been implicated in mediating chemoresistance, potentially through upregulation of ABC transporter proteins by modulating signaling pathways including CARM1 and MYCN[1]. No direct pharmacological modulators or clinical biomarkers are currently described for this protein, and it is not classically classified as a therapeutic target, but its emerging role in cancer mechanisms makes it of increasing biological interest[1][2][5].
