Overview

Ribosome production factor 2 homolog pseudogene 2 (RPF2P2) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence resembling a functional gene but is considered non-coding as it does not produce a functional protein product. It is related by sequence similarity to the RPF2 gene, which encodes a ribosome biogenesis factor involved in pre-rRNA processing and assembly of the 60S ribosomal subunit in yeast and humans. However, as a pseudogene, RPF2P2 itself is not a functional gene and is not considered a protein-coding target for therapeutic intervention. There is minimal or no evidence that RPF2P2 plays a direct role in biological processes, disease mechanisms, or acts as a biomarker, nor are there any known drugs or mechanism of action associated with it. While its functional gene homolog, RPF2, has been investigated in cancer (e.g., hepatocellular carcinoma) where it may promote proliferation and poor prognosis, RPF2P2 is distinct and does not share these properties. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate gene expression or serve as disease markers, but there is no specific evidence identified for RPF2P2. Therefore, RPF2P2 is not considered a therapeutic target.
