Ribulose-5-phosphate-3-epimerase-like protein 1 (RPEL1) is a human protein encoded by the RPEL1 gene. It is predicted to function as an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible epimerization of D-ribulose 5-phosphate to D-xylulose 5-phosphate within the pentose phosphate pathway. RPEL1 is predicted to act in the cytosol and participates in carbohydrate metabolism, yet its specific physiological and pathological roles remain largely uncharacterized. Disease association data link RPEL1 to Familial Adult Myoclonic Epilepsy 5, but its mechanistic involvement has not been elucidated. No current evidence positions RPEL1 as a therapeutic target, and there are no reported drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with its targeting[3].
