The RIG-I pathway is a critical component of the innate immune system, responsible for detecting viral RNA and initiating antiviral responses. Activation of the pathway involves recognition of specific RNA structures, primarily short dsRNAs with 5'-triphosphate or diphosphate ends, by the RIG-I receptor. This leads to downstream signaling events that induce type I interferon production, inflammatory cytokine release, and other antiviral mechanisms. RIG-I agonists are being explored as potential therapeutics for viral infections and cancer immunotherapy.
