Overview

RIMS-binding protein 3B (RIMBP3B) is a scaffold protein containing SH3 domains and is thought to be a component of the manchette, a microtubule-based cytoskeletal structure crucial for sperm head morphogenesis during the late stages of spermatid development[3]. While other RIMBP proteins serve key roles at the presynaptic active zone by regulating neurotransmitter release, RIMBP3B appears to function specifically in sperm formation rather than synaptic transmission[3][4][5]. It is encoded by the RIMBP3B gene, with homologs and paralogs such as RIMBP3 involved in similar processes. Genetic alterations in this gene have been associated with rare conditions, but RIMBP3B is not considered a drug target and is not involved in common human pathologies or therapeutic interventions[3][5].
