Overview

Ring finger protein 148 (RNF148) is a protein-coding gene in humans encoding an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that contains a RING finger zinc-binding domain[1][9]. This protein is predicted to localize to intracellular membranes, including the Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, and late endosome[1][4]. It is involved in tagging proteins with ubiquitin for proteasomal degradation, contributing to protein homeostasis[1][4][7]. RNF148 is broadly expressed, with highest abundance in testis[10]. Recent studies implicate RNF148 as an oncogene in colorectal cancer, where it promotes tumorigenesis via ubiquitination and degradation of CHAC2; mutations in this gene have also been associated with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 73[1][6]. No approved drugs target RNF148, nor are there established biomarkers or known clinical safety issues linked to its modulation.
