Overview

Ring finger protein 152 pseudogene 1 (RNF152P1) is a human genomic locus that shares strong sequence homology with the protein-coding RNF152 gene but does not produce a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it is considered biologically inactive; however, research suggests some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects on their parental genes’ expression by acting as decoys for microRNAs[2][4][6]. There is currently no evidence that RNF152P1 itself has such a function, nor is it considered a therapeutic target. By contrast, its parental gene RNF152 encodes an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in protein ubiquitination and negative regulation of mTORC1 signaling[1][5].
