It does not encode a protein, but its sequence shares high similarity with the functional RNF168 gene, which is involved in DNA damage signaling; the pseudogene itself does not participate in any known biological processes or diseases. Its main relevance is as a technical confounder in molecular diagnostics, where its similarity may cause issues in detecting genuine RNF168 variants. There is no evidence that this pseudogene itself is transcribed, translated, or functional.
