Ring finger protein 18 pseudogene (ENSG00000227679) is an annotated pseudogene locus derived from the sequence of the protein-coding ring finger protein 18 (RNF18) gene. Pseudogenes are genomic regions resulting from gene duplication or retro-transposition events and have accumulated mutations that prevent them from producing functional proteins. This locus does not encode a functional protein nor is it a component of canonical molecular pathways[2][4]. While some pseudogenes have been reported to play indirect regulatory roles via non-coding RNAs, no such function has been identified for ENSG00000227679. Therefore, it should not be considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or a viable pharmacological target[2][4][5].
