Ring finger protein 2 pseudogene 1 (RNF2P1) is a pseudogene—that is, a DNA sequence similar to a protein-coding gene (in this case, RNF2), but believed to be nonfunctional and incapable of producing a protein product. Pseudogenes may occasionally be transcribed into RNA and in rare cases regulate gene expression through acting as competing endogenous RNAs or microRNA decoys, but there is no specific or confirmed evidence that RNF2P1 is functional or plays a significant biological or therapeutic role.
