Overview

Ring finger protein 225 (RNF225) is a predicted protein coding gene in humans encoding a member of the RING-type E3 ubiquitin ligase family[1][3][7][11]. It contains a zinc-binding RING finger domain, which is commonly associated with E3 ligase function, mediating the transfer of ubiquitin from E2 conjugating enzymes to substrate proteins in the process of protein degradation and turnover. RNF225 is predicted, based on sequence analysis and domain structure, to function in protein ubiquitination, likely regulating protein turnover, signaling pathways, or cellular localization of its substrates, though specific targets and physiological roles remain undefined[1][3][7][11]. There are currently no direct links to drug pharmacology, clear disease mechanisms, or biomarker applications. This gene is associated with rare syndromic conditions according to genetic databases, but functional studies are very limited and evidence for these associations is presently weak[3]. Its expression may have tissue-specific patterns but detailed biological characterization is lacking[5][9]. Compared to other well-characterized RING finger ubiquitin ligases (e.g., RNF2), the biology of RNF225 is almost entirely unstudied and its therapeutic relevance is unknown[2][3][11].
