RLIG1 pseudogene 3 (RLIG1P3) is a non-coding genetic element derived from the RLIG1 gene, which encodes RNA 5'-phosphate and 3'-OH ligase 1, an enzyme involved in RNA repair and tRNA ligation. However, as a pseudogene, RLIG1P3 does not code for an active enzyme, is not known to have a biological function, and is not considered a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes are sequences similar to functional genes but rendered nonfunctional due to mutations, truncations, or other genetic alterations. RLIG1P3 should not be confused with the functional RLIG1 gene/protein. If a functional target was intended, the correct focus should be on RNA 5'-phosphate and 3'-OH ligase 1 (RLIG1), not RLIG1P3.
