RMDN2 antisense RNA 1 (RMDN2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on human chromosome 12 and transcribed from the opposite strand of the RMDN2 gene[1]. It does not encode a protein but participates in the regulation of gene expression, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metabolic processes[1][2][4]. RMDN2-AS1 is implicated in cancer biology, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma, where it has been correlated with poor prognosis and may serve as a prognostic biomarker[2][4]. This lncRNA acts through complex co-expression networks, influencing metabolic adaptation, tumor progression, and apoptosis. While it is not a therapeutic target in the conventional sense (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), it represents an emerging regulatory RNA of interest in cancer research[1][2][4].
