Overview

RMP24 pseudogene 1 (RMP24P1) is a pseudogene located on human chromosome 18, previously known as C18orf21 pseudogene 1. Unlike its parent gene RMP24 (which encodes for ribonuclease MRP subunit p24), RMP24P1 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. There is no current evidence that RMP24P1 carries out any biological function or plays a role in disease, nor is it considered a therapeutic target[3][4].
