It is homologous to the functional 7SK small nuclear RNA (RN7SK), which plays a regulatory role in transcription elongation by binding and inhibiting the P-TEFb complex (CDK9/cyclin T1)[3]. In contrast, RN7SKP121 does not encode a functional RNA or protein, and there is no evidence it participates in cellular functions, disease mechanisms, or serves as a drug target[1][2]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SKP121 are typically remnants of genomic evolution and are included in gene annotations mainly for completeness.
