Overview

RN7SK pseudogene 151 (RN7SKP151) is a non-coding genomic sequence in the human genome, classified as a pseudogene of the 7SK small nuclear RNA gene. Pseudogenes are copies of genes that have lost the ability to code for functional RNA or proteins due to mutations or truncations. RN7SKP151 does not encode a functional 7SK RNA and has no recognized functional role. Its nomenclature reflects homology to the functional 7SK snRNA gene (RN7SK), which regulates transcriptional elongation by modulating P-TEFb activity. There is currently no evidence that this pseudogene participates in biological regulation, serves as a biomarker, or is a therapeutic target. The functional 7SK RNA is well characterized and regulates the elongation phase of transcription by controlling P-TEFb. Pseudogenes like RN7SKP151, by contrast, are considered non-functional relics unless proven otherwise. Some RNA pseudogenes have regulatory roles, but this has not been demonstrated for RN7SKP151. If more information emerges that any RN7SKP pseudogenes have a regulatory or disease-associated role, this status would need to be re-assessed.
