RN7SK pseudogene 161 (RN7SKP161) is a human genomic pseudogene annotated as a non-coding sequence similar to the functional 7SK small nuclear RNA gene, but lacking the capacity to encode a functional RNA or protein. Pseudogenes are generally transcriptionally inactive and do not participate in cellular processes attributed to their functional counterparts. While the parental RN7SK is an important regulator in transcriptional elongation by RNA polymerase II and implicated in diseases such as HIV infection and immune deficiency[1][5], RN7SK pseudogene 161 itself has no documented biological function, therapeutic relevance, or drug interaction, and should not be regarded as a therapeutic target[3][2][6].
