It is derived from the RN7SK gene, which encodes 7SK small nuclear RNA, a key regulator of transcription via its role in the 7SK ribonucleoprotein complex that controls the activity of RNA Polymerase II. Unlike the functional RN7SK, RN7SKP174 does not appear to be transcribed into a biologically active RNA, nor does it participate in molecular signaling, regulatory pathways, or disease processes. As a pseudogene, it may serve as a genomic relic of previous gene duplication or retrotransposition events, but it has no established biological function, disease relevance, or therapeutic applicability in current literature. RN7SKP174 should not be confused with RN7SK, which is actively involved in the regulation of gene transcription.
