RN7SK pseudogene 182 (RN7SKP182) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene located on human chromosome 18 (chr18:39016047-39016344, hg38), annotated in multiple databases including NCBI and Ensembl[1][4][7]. Like other pseudogenes, it arises from sequence similarity to a functional gene—in this case, RN7SK, which encodes the 7SK small nuclear RNA involved in regulating transcriptional elongation by RNA polymerase II[1][6]. However, as a pseudogene, RN7SKP182 contains mutations or deletions that preclude its ability to encode a functional RNA or protein product[4][5]. Pseudogenes similar to RN7SKP182 are generally regarded as nonfunctional, though occasional data suggest possible regulatory effects for some pseudogenes; no such effect has been demonstrated for RN7SKP182 specifically[4][5]. There is no evidence that RN7SKP182 is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, drug target, or disease biomarker. RN7SKP182 should not be confused with the functional RN7SK small nuclear RNA gene, which plays a role in the regulation of transcription and is implicated in cellular processes in the epidermis[3][6]. However, "RN7SK pseudogene 182" itself is a nonfunctional genomic remnant[1][4].
