Overview

RN7SK pseudogene 23 (RN7SKP23) is a human pseudogene; pseudogenes are non-functional DNA sequences similar to known genes, originally formed through gene duplication or retrotransposition. Unlike its functional paralog RN7SK, which encodes a long noncoding RNA involved in the regulation of RNA polymerase II transcription elongation and macrophage polarization[1][3], RN7SKP23 does not perform known biological functions and is not linked to disease or therapeutics[2]. RN7SKP23 should not be considered a therapeutic target. The functional molecule is RN7SK (RNA component of 7SK nuclear ribonucleoprotein), which plays roles in transcriptional regulation and immune cell polarization, but RN7SKP23 is simply a genomic copy and not expressed as a functional RNA or protein[2][3].
