RN7SK pseudogene 246 (RN7SKP246)

Target
RN7SKP246
Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

RN7SKP246 designates a pseudogene (RN7SK pseudogene 246), not the functional gene. The functional molecule, RNA, 7SK small nuclear (RN7SK), is a centrally important non-coding RNA that serves as a scaffold within the 7SK small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, regulating transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II and influencing control of gene expression, splicing, and the fate of stem and differentiating cells. RN7SK modulates bidirectional gene transcription, affects cell cycle regulation during epidermal stem cell differentiation, and is involved in transcriptional poising and termination in embryonic stem cells[1][2][3]. However, pseudogenes such as RN7SKP246 are non-functional sequences derived from ancestral RN7SK genes and do not encode functional RNAs or serve as therapeutic targets.
