The parent gene, RN7SK, encodes the 7SK small nuclear RNA, an abundant noncoding RNA that plays a major role in regulating transcription elongation by sequestering and inhibiting the activity of positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb)[1][2][4]. Pseudogenes like RN7SKP249 generally do not yield functional transcripts or proteins, though pseudogenes can sometimes participate in regulatory networks as noncoding RNAs in rare instances[5]. There is currently no experimental evidence that RN7SKP249 has an active function, pathogenic role, or relevance as a therapeutic target.
