Overview

RN7SK pseudogene 268 is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the RN7SK gene, which encodes the functional 7SK small nuclear RNA. Functional 7SK snRNA is a critical regulator of transcriptional elongation in metazoans via sequestration of the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb); it plays roles in the control of RNA polymerase II activity and therefore gene expression. However, RN7SKP268 itself is a pseudogene—an inactive relic of evolutionary history that does not produce any functional RNA or protein and has no known role in normal physiology or disease. It is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is there any evidence it serves as a biomarker or has interacting drugs. Key clarification: RN7SK pseudogene 268 (RN7SKP268) should not be confused with the functional RN7SK snRNA, which is a well-studied regulatory RNA involved in transcriptional control in eukaryotes. The pseudogene copies like RN7SKP268 are typically nonfunctional, lack expression, and are not the subject of drug-development efforts. If a therapeutic context involving 7SK snRNA was meant, only the parent functional gene (RN7SK, not RN7SKP268) would be relevant.

Mechanism of action

none

03

Biological functions

none directly (as a pseudogene, it does not have a biological function)
04

Disease associations

none directly attributable; functional 7SK RNA has disease associations, but not the pseudogene copies
