Overview

RN7SK pseudogene 43 (RN7SKP43), also known as RNA, 7SK small nuclear pseudogene 43, is a pseudogene member of the 7SK small nuclear RNA family. Pseudogenes generally lack functional RNA or protein products due to disabling mutations or incomplete transcriptional elements and, as such, do not have a direct biological function, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. RN7SKP43 does not produce a functional 7SK RNA product and is not referenced in literature as involved in cellular pathways, disease, or as a drug target. In contrast, the functionally active gene in this family is RN7SK, which encodes the 7SK snRNA—a noncoding RNA essential for regulating transcription elongation by sequestration of the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb). While the canonical, functional RN7SK is important in transcriptional regulation, cell proliferation, cell cycle, and immune functions, RN7SKP43 is not implicated in these processes, and there is no evidence of its expression or biomarker potential. As a non-functional genomic remnant related to the active RN7SK gene, RN7SKP43 is not considered a therapeutic or research target. If your intent is to investigate functional targets, information from the active RN7SK gene should be referenced instead.
