RN7SK pseudogene 61 (RN7SKP61) is a human pseudogene related to the 7SK small nuclear RNA gene (RN7SK), which itself encodes an abundant non-coding RNA crucial for the regulation of transcription elongation in metazoans[1][2][3]. Pseudogenes like RN7SKP61 are generally non-functional genetic elements arising from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. They typically do not give rise to functional RNA or protein products and lack a role in normal physiology, pathophysiology, or pharmacology. The functional 7SK snRNA (from the RN7SK gene) acts as a key regulator of the positive transcription elongation factor P-TEFb, but RN7SKP61 does not participate in this or any other known cellular process.
