Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 135 (RNA5SP135) is a human pseudogene related to 5S ribosomal RNA sequences. Pseudogenes of this type are non-functional DNA segments derived from ancestral gene duplication or retrotransposition events and do not code for functional RNA or protein products. 5S rRNA is normally an integral structural and functional component of the large ribosomal subunit and is required for ribosome assembly and function[1][3][7], but the 'pseudogene' designation indicates RNA5SP135 itself is not transcribed into a functional 5S rRNA molecule. As such, it is not classified as a therapeutic target and has no known associated biological function, drug interactions, or disease relevance. While some pseudogenes have been implicated as biomarkers or in gene regulation, there is no evidence indicating that RNA5SP135 has any such roles[2][5][6][10].

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, typically thought to have no direct biological function; however, some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles, but no such evidence is reported for this specific gene)
04

Disease associations

No direct disease roleGeneral note: Some pseudogenes are reported to show differential expression in various cancers and may serve as biomarkers or participate in regulatory networks, but there is no specific evidence for RNA5SP135 in the literature found
05

Biomarkers

None specific to this geneGeneral note: Expression of certain pseudogenes can correlate with disease subtypes or prognosis in cancer, but no evidence indicates RNA5SP135 is used this way
