RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 353 (RNA5SP353), is classified as a processed pseudogene derived from the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene[2][4][6][7]. 5S ribosomal RNA is a critical structural component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][3][5], but RNA5SP353 lacks protein-coding potential and is not transcribed into a functional product. As a processed pseudogene, it is the result of reverse transcription and genomic integration of a 5S rRNA transcript, typically lacking regulatory elements for active expression[6]. Pseudogenes as a class may have roles as competitive endogenous RNAs, but there is no direct evidence that RNA5SP353 plays such a role. It is not considered a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
