Unlike functional U1 snRNAs, which play a central role in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome, RNU1-55P does not encode a functional small nuclear RNA and is not known to have a biological function or therapeutic relevance. The human genome contains numerous U1 snRNA pseudogenes such as RNU1-55P, usually as remnants of retrotransposition events, and these typically do not contribute to cellular processes.
