Unlike functional U1 snRNAs, which play a central role in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome, RNU1-55P does not encode a functional small nuclear RNA and is not known to have a biological function or therapeutic relevance. The human genome contains numerous U1 snRNA pseudogenes such as RNU1-55P, usually as remnants of retrotransposition events, and these typically do not contribute to cellular processes. There are no drugs, disease associations, or validated biomarker roles described for this pseudogene in the current biomedical literature or genetics databases.
