RNA, U5D small nuclear 1 (RNU5D-1) is a variant of U5 small nuclear RNA, classified as a small nuclear RNA (snRNA) involved in the spliceosomal machinery critical for pre-mRNA processing in eukaryotic cells[1][4][5]. Specifically, it is predicted to participate in the formation of the spliceosomal tri-snRNP complex (U4/U6•U5), which is essential for the catalysis of intron removal and exon ligation during mRNA maturation[5][6]. The U5 family of snRNAs, including RNU5D-1, helps align exons for accurate splicing and is necessary for the fidelity of gene expression in human cells[2][3]. RNU5D-1 has not been established as a direct disease gene or drug target, and no drugs or biomarker roles have been reported for it at this time[5][6]. Its function is mainly structural and catalytic within the spliceosome, as part of a non-coding RNA-protein complex responsible for essential steps in mRNA maturation[1].
