Overview

RNA, U7 small nuclear 51 pseudogene (RNU7-51P) is classified as a pseudogene—a genomically encoded sequence resembling the functional U7 small nuclear RNA gene, but lacking biological activity and not producing a functional transcript or protein[1][5]. The biologically active homolog, RNA, U7 small nuclear 1 (RNU7-1), encodes the U7 snRNA, which functions as part of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex essential for processing histone pre-mRNAs, thereby ensuring proper histone biosynthesis and DNA replication fidelity[2][3][4][6]. Mutations in RNU7-1—but not pseudogenes such as RNU7-51P—can cause Aicardi-Goutières syndrome, a severe early-onset neuroinflammatory disorder[2][3][6]. RNU7-51P contains no known protein-coding capacity, no documented biological function, and is not considered relevant for drug discovery or therapeutic targeting[1][5].

Other names
U7.51RNU7-51P
02

Mechanism of action

None (not a target)

03

Biological functions

None (for RNU7-51P, as pseudogenes are non-functional; functional U7 snRNA is involved in histone pre-mRNA processing)
04

Disease associations

None (for RNU7-51P; functional defects are associated with the active gene RNU7-1, which is linked to Aicardi-Goutières syndrome)
05

Safety considerations

None (not a therapeutic target)
06

Interacting drugs

None known (not a drug target)
07

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker)
