RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 102 is a non-coding RNA sequence classified as a pseudogene and is derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Functional 5S rRNA is a component of the large ribosomal subunit essential for ribosome structure and function in all domains of life. However, as a pseudogene, RNA5SP102 does not encode a functional RNA molecule and is generally considered a “genomic fossil”—a nonfunctional remnant of the ancestral 5S rRNA gene.
