Overview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 138 (RNA5SP138) is a human genomic pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) family. While functional copies of 5S rRNA play an essential role in ribosome structure and protein synthesis[3][5], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP138 do not encode a functional RNA and lack evidence of biological activity. They arise through duplications or retrotransposition events that create nonfunctional copies in the genome[2][6]. RNA5SP138 is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target and is not associated with disease or drug mechanism. There is no evidence from gene databases, functional annotation, or the biomedical literature that RNA5SP138 fulfills any role beyond being a genomic pseudogene[7].
