Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 169 (RNA5SP169) is a genomic DNA sequence annotated as a pseudogene resembling the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are genetic elements similar to genes but contain disabling mutations that prevent them from encoding functional RNA or proteins[2][6]. rRNA pseudogenes such as RNA5SP169 are not translated or expressed as functional ribosomal RNA. The 5S rRNA is normally an essential part of the ribosomal large subunit involved in protein synthesis, but pseudogenes like RNA5SP169 are non-functional relics arising through gene duplication or retrotransposition events[1][2][6]. Their presence in the genome can serve as evolutionary footprints and, in rare cases, these RNAs might get transcribed, but evidence for functional regulatory or pathogenic roles for this specific pseudogene is lacking. RNA5SP169 is not a classical therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and is generally excluded from pharmaceutical targeting databases[4][6].
