Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 19 is a non-coding RNA locus classified as a processed pseudogene of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are gene sequences similar to functional genes but contain mutations or deletions that prevent them from being expressed as functional molecules. The canonical 5S ribosomal RNA is a highly conserved, functional component of the large ribosomal subunit, critical for ribosome assembly and protein synthesis[1][7][4][9]. In contrast, pseudogene copies, like RNA5SP19, are typically non-functional and not involved in ribosome biology or therapeutic targeting[2][8][10]. Some ribosomal RNA pseudogenes may be transcribed and play regulatory roles or be processed into small RNAs, but there is no evidence that RNA5SP19 has such activities. Thus, RNA5SP19 is not a therapeutic target and should not be considered in drug discovery or biomarker strategies.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; as a pseudogene, it is not targeted therapeutically and has no known mechanism of action in drug targeting.

03

Biological functions

No confirmed biological function; pseudogenes are generally non-functional copies of genesSome 5S rRNA pseudogene transcripts may regulate cellular RNA by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or being processed into small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), but this is not established for RNA5SP19 specifically
04

Disease associations

None establishedNo published association between RNA5SP19 and specific diseases
05

Safety considerations

None reported for this pseudogene; pseudogenes generally do not pose therapeutic safety issues
