Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 274 (RNA5SP274) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene found in humans, annotated as Gene ID: 100873527 in the NCBI database. Pseudogenes of ribosomal RNA are genomic sequences similar to those of normal rRNA genes but are typically nonfunctional due to sequence disruptions, lack of transcriptional activity, or incapacity to incorporate into ribosomes. The canonical functional gene for 5S ribosomal RNA encodes a small structured RNA that is essential for ribosome assembly and function; however, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP274 usually represent evolutionary relics and do not participate in ribosome biogenesis or protein synthesis. There is currently no evidence in the literature for a direct role of RNA5SP274 in disease, cell signaling, or as a clinical biomarker. This gene is catalogued primarily for completeness of genomic annotation and is not considered a drug target or therapeutic entity.
