Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 326 (RNA5SP326), is a member of the large family of processed and unprocessed pseudogenes in the human genome. It is homologous to 5S ribosomal RNA genes but has acquired mutations that make it nonfunctional for ribosome assembly or protein synthesis. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP326 typically arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events and do not produce functional RNA or protein products. While most pseudogenes are traditionally considered "genomic fossils" without biological function, recent research indicates that some may exert regulatory effects on gene expression via RNA-mediated mechanisms (such as competing endogenous RNA or antisense regulation). However, there is no literature supporting any direct biological, therapeutic, or drug-target role for RNA5SP326 itself, and it is not recognized as a classical, actionable drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. Consequently, RNA5SP326 is generally not included in drug discovery pipelines or as a validated biomarker.
