Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 335 (RNA5SP335) is a processed pseudogene derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Pseudogenes, including rRNA pseudogenes, arise via duplication or retrotransposition events but accumulate mutations that prevent them from producing functional RNA molecules or proteins. While functional 5S rRNA is critical for the structure and assembly of the ribosome and translation of mRNA into protein, the RNA5SP335 pseudogene is generally considered non-functional and is not known to participate in cellular processes or to be relevant as a drug target. Some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have regulatory or disease-related roles, but there is no evidence that RNA5SP335 has clinical significance, biomarker potential, or established links to therapeutic intervention.
