RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 340 (RNA5SP340) is a human pseudogene related to the family of 5S ribosomal RNA genes. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP340 do not produce functional RNA molecules and are considered non-coding. Pseudogenes often arise from duplication events or retrotransposition and typically accumulate mutations that prevent them from fulfilling the ancestral biological function. RNA5SP340 belongs to the large group of rRNA pseudogenes in the human genome, and it has no established role in protein-coding, cellular regulation, or direct disease mechanisms.
