Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 360 is a processed pseudogene derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene located on human chromosome 12[4][7]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP360 acquire disabling mutations and typically do not have protein-coding or canonical functional roles. While pseudogenes were historically considered functionless, some can be transcribed and may participate in regulatory RNA networks or have subtle influences on gene expression[2]. There is no experimental evidence that RNA5SP360 is transcribed or plays a direct functional or pathological role. It is included in the genome as a non-functional remnant of gene duplication and retrotransposition events[6][2][7]. It is not considered a therapeutic target or clinically actionable gene as of current knowledge.
