Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 368 (RNA5SP368) is a processed pseudogene resulting from the retrotransposition of 5S ribosomal RNA sequences[1][6]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, RNA5SP368 contains disabling mutations and typically lacks the regulatory sequences necessary for active transcription and biological function. While the 5S rRNA gene itself is essential for ribosome stability and function in protein synthesis[3][5][7], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP368 are generally considered non-functional remnants. However, pseudogenes can, in specific contexts, act as regulators of gene expression by serving as competing endogenous RNAs or by influencing the stability of regulatory molecules[2][8]. To date, there are no known pharmacological agents, clinical biomarkers, or safety data directly linked to RNA5SP368, and no evidence supports its consideration as a therapeutic target or disease biomarker. In summary, RNA5SP368 is a non-coding, non-functional pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family and does not act as a drug target, receptor, or enzyme.
