RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 419 (RNA5SP419)

Target
RNA5SP419
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Unprocessed ribosomal RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 419 (RNA5SP419) is a non-functional pseudogene in the human genome, sharing sequence similarity with the functional 5S ribosomal RNA genes. 5S ribosomal RNA is a conserved structural RNA that plays a role in the ribosome's large subunit assembly and function.[1][3] Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP419 typically arise via DNA duplication or retrotransposition events, then accumulate mutations that render them transcriptionally or functionally inactive.[2][4] While pseudogenes in general may have occasional regulatory or non-coding RNA functions, there is no evidence that RNA5SP419 functions as a therapeutic target or biomarker, nor does it code for a functional RNA or protein in humans.
