RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 44 (RNA5SP44) is a processed pseudogene that resembles the gene encoding 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) but does not code for a functional product[2][4][7]. It is located on human chromosome 1 (chr1:39154164-39154296)[2][4]. Pseudogenes are defective genomic copies of functional genes, usually arising by duplication or retrotransposition, and typically accumulate disabling mutations that prevent them from being transcribed or translated into functional RNA or protein[1][3][5].
