RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 462 (RNA5SP462) is a *processed pseudogene* derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2][5][6]. Processed pseudogenes originate via reverse transcription of mRNA and subsequent insertion into the genome, resulting in non-functional copies that typically lack introns and do not code for proteins or functional RNAs[2][6]. Unlike the functional 5S ribosomal RNA, which forms part of the large ribosomal subunit and is essential for ribosome structure and function[1][3], RNA5SP462 does not produce a biologically active RNA or protein and is not known to play a role in normal cellular processes or as a therapeutic target. Such pseudogenes may occasionally participate in regulatory phenomena (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNAs) in specific contexts, but there is no evidence or literature supporting such functions for RNA5SP462[5]. It is not recognized as a therapeutic, diagnostic, or research target.
