Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 502 (RNA5SP502) is a human pseudogene that shares homology with the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene, but lacks protein-coding capacity and is not established to have functional biological activity. Unlike canonical 5S rRNA—which is an integral structural component of the large ribosomal subunit across cellular life and essential for ribosome function and protein synthesis[3][1][5]—pseudogenes like RNA5SP502 are regarded as non-coding RNA segments resulting from gene duplication, sequence drift, or retrotransposition. They are annotated in genome databases, but RNA5SP502 itself is not described in scientific literature as biologically active, a disease-associated gene, or a drug target[4].
