Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 504 (RNA5SP504) is a member of the abundant family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes found in the human genome[2][5]. Unlike functional 5S ribosomal RNA, which is a key structural and functional component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][3], this pseudogene is a non-coding RNA sequence with high homology to 5S rRNA but lacks the capacity to encode a functional RNA molecule or protein[2][5]. Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP504 are typically not transcribed, but in some cases, expressed pseudogenes can have regulatory roles, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or affecting gene expression through various mechanisms[4]. Large-scale studies have demonstrated that pseudogene expression in general can act as a cancer biomarker or regulatory element, but there is no evidence to support a direct therapeutic target role for RNA5SP504[4].
