RN7SL14P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 14, pseudogene) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but rendered nonfunctional by mutations or truncations. RN7SL14P derives from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), critical for ribosome-mediated protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[2][3][7]. Unlike the active gene, RN7SL14P is truncated, not expressed at functional levels, and does not encode any protein or active RNA product. Most pseudogenes, including RN7SL14P, do not participate in regulatory or signaling processes and are not targets for drugs or disease-modifying interventions[1][2][4]. Occasionally, pseudogenes elsewhere in the genome can be transcribed at low levels or impact regulation, but no such evidence is found for RN7SL14P[1][2][4].
