Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 189, pseudogene (RN7SL189P) is a human **non-coding RNA pseudogene** closely related in sequence to the functional RNA, 7SL, which constitutes the RNA backbone of the signal recognition particle (SRP) pivotal in co-translational protein targeting[1][6][7]. RN7SL189P itself is non-functional as an RNA gene and does not encode a protein or active RNA product. Most 7SL RNA pseudogenes arise through the reverse transcription of 7SL RNA and are dispersed in the human genome as **non-expressed, truncated, or mutated copies** of the original gene[7][6]. Unlike 7SL RNA, which serves as a scaffold in SRP assembly, pseudogenes including RN7SL189P generally lack known biological or pathological functions, though some pseudogenes may act as competing endogenous RNAs or have subtle regulatory roles in specific contexts. There is currently no evidence suggesting RN7SL189P is a therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or direct participant in disease pathology[1][6][7].
